Why Audacious Gloop?

My other identity on many online services is AudaciousGloop. I used it once in 2004 and, once invented, it was easy to remember, so I used it again and again.

I’ve accidentally created a brand. Just Google audaciousgloop and you’ll find many different versions of me.

It’s only recently that people have commented on the name and asked where it came from. It was only when I saw a rerun of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that I realised I’d been subconsciously reminding myself of Augustus Gloop, the fat German kid who narrowly escaped a gruesome death in a pool of chocolate.

Over the years I had thought of an alternative deconstruction of the name, perhaps coming from a feeling of unconscious nihilism, simultaneously battling and embracing Darwinist existentialism, feeling like primordial gloop with no reason to be anything, but being audacious enough to be it anyway.

Or maybe I just thought it had a cool sound to it.
